Who is Ajay Gunness?
Born on September 16, 1959 in a very modest family in Medine-Camp de Masque, he started working very early on to help his father, a labourer in agriculture, and his mother, a housewife. The eldest of four children – he has two brothers and a sister – he attended Osman Peerun primary school. He later attended Mauritius College in Curepipe. Over the years, the average student becomes interested in accounting and economics.
With his HSC in hand, he launched into teaching. Employed from 1978 to 1989 at the Quartier-Militaire College as an economics and accounting teacher, he began studying economics at the Mauritius Institute for Education (MIE). In 1990, Ajay Gunness took a job at the Collège du Saint-Esprit and continued his studies. Through the MIE, he completed a correspondence degree with Napier University in Scotland and then his PGCE still at the MIE.
